The Winner Is

She was in two of my classes. I didn’t really know her. I don’t know exactly why she did it. Maybe she had no control over anything except her own life. Maybe she couldn’t handle pretending anymore. Either way, it happened.

We mourn for the loss of one of our own. We mourn for the pain she felt, and the pain that was felt by others. We mourn for another count in the statistic. We mourn for the loss of a young girl’s bright future. Of potential children. Of the dreams she had. But, for some of us, most of all, we mourn for that thought that’s eating at our souls, that we died a little with her.
